Horse Slaughter Is Not Illegal in the United States

Updated: Apr 4, 2020

"Most Americans are completely unaware that horse slaughter is not illegal in this country; approximately 150,000 American horses are still rounded up each year and shipped to Canada and Mexico to be killed and their carcasses sold to international meat distributors,"

The slaughter of equines for meat is not only inhumane, eating horse meat poses serious health risks. Since U.S. horses are not intentionally raised for food, many are given a wide variety of drugs that make their meat unfit for human consumption.

92.3% OF AMERICAN HORSES sent to slaughter are healthy and would be able to live out happy lives if given the chance.

HERO Barn believes in the value of kill pen horses. Help us build our dream today by donating to our barn and land build fund.
